How to play Daily Hangman

Each day there's one hidden word, shown as a row of blanks — one blank per letter. Guess letters using the on-screen keyboard or your own keyboard. Every correct letter fills in the blank wherever it appears, and every wrong letter adds one more piece to the figure: first the head, then the body, then two arms and two legs. You're allowed six wrong guesses; the seventh would finish the drawing, so you need to reveal the whole word before then. Because the word is chosen from the calendar date, everyone plays the same word each day, and a fresh one appears at midnight your local time. Your progress is saved right in your browser.

A simple strategy

Start with the vowels — e, a, o, i, u — since almost every word contains at least one, and knowing where the vowels sit narrows things quickly. Then reach for the most common consonants, roughly r, s, t, n, l, before spending a guess on rare letters like j, q, x and z. Watch the pattern that forms: familiar endings such as -ing, -ed and -tion, or double letters, often give the word away with a guess or two to spare.

Want a hand?

If a word has you stumped, our crossword solver finds words that fit a pattern of known and blank letters, and the word lists A–Z are a good way to widen your vocabulary. They pair naturally with the daily word when you'd rather learn a new word than lose the round.
