How the Daily Word Guess works

Every day there's one hidden five-letter word, and you get six tries to find it. Type any real five-letter word and press Enter. Each tile then changes color to tell you how close you are: green means that letter is correct and in the right position, yellow means the letter is in the word but sits somewhere else, and grey means the letter isn't in the word at all. Use those clues to zero in on the answer before your six guesses run out. Because the word is chosen from the calendar date, everyone plays the same word each day, and a fresh one appears at midnight your local time. Your progress is saved right in your browser.

A simple strategy

A strong opening guess uses five different common letters — words rich in vowels and frequent consonants tend to reveal the most on the first row. Once you've locked in a green letter, keep it in place and swap the greys for letters you haven't tried yet. Pay close attention to yellows: the letter belongs in the word, just not where you put it, so shuffle it to a new column. If two guesses feel equally good, prefer the one that tests more unused letters — information early makes the last rows far easier.

Duplicate letters

Repeated letters are handled the way you'd expect: if the answer contains a letter once but your guess uses it twice, only one copy will light up — the better-placed one turns green or yellow while the extra stays grey. That little detail is often the key to cracking tricky words, so don't assume a grey tile means the letter is entirely absent when you've used it more than once.
